Slotting My Way Through Summer

Monday, June 27th, 2011

I can see that this is going to be a very boring summer indeed.  No Olympics to speak of, the World Cup a distant memory and even the regular horse races looking slightly dull, without too much competition this year.  So what can I do to make this summer that much more enjoyable, considering that the heat is up and the bankroll is looking a bit dismal around the edges?  Thankfully, I won’t need to travel too far from home and spend hard-earned cash on gas and other expenses in order to enjoy some great gambling action.  All my favorite online casinos, without fail, have lined up a fantastic summer slots program for me to enjoy and, who knows, maybe I’ll win enough to earn myself a vacation at the end of the summer.

When you think summer, what comes to mind? Sun, sea, heat, lovely ladies on the shore, ice-cream cones, beach games, etc. etc. etc.  So even if you can’t join the crowd, you can still enjoy the images which are flaunted across summer themed slot games.

So after a quick look around the different online casinos, which are the summer slot games that caught my eye?

I like the look of Real Time Gaming’s Paradise Dreams because it really does conjure up everything I’d put in my own dream of the perfect summer vacation.  A serene paradise island? Check. Blooming exotic flowers? Check. Lovely ladies? Check.  In addition, this five reel, 20 pay line game allows you win a jackpot of over 5,000 coins, which could buy you your own little piece of paradise if luck is on your side!

Playtech’s Vacation Station is a great game that also whisks you off to sultry summer seasons. This is an animated game with a twist, as it has nine reels and eight pay lines, and the reels spin a way that is different to your usual fare.  For those high rollers among us, there is an option to wager a massive $120 a spin, which really adds a whole new dimension to slots gambling!

Check out these other summer themed titles: Beach Party, Summer Dream, Summer Time, Beach Babes, Beach Life, Picnic Panic and Holiday Hotel.

Happy Slottin’!

True Gambling Tale: Man Wins Lottery Twice in Same Day

Sunday, June 26th, 2011

I love reading about interesting/heart-warming/incredible gambling-related stories, and this latest one came to my attention recently, even though it happened two years ago.

James McAllister celebrated a Valentine’s Day he’ll never forget after doing the practically impossible – winning the lottery twice… on the same day!  The odds of this happening are staggering, but McAllister is walking proof that it can really happen!

It all began when the 62 year old decided to take his wife out for a Valentine’s Day breakfast, and during a stop off along Highway 92 in Georgia, he purchased a Millionaire Jumbo Bucks scratch off ticket.  McAllister was over the moon when he found out that he had won $5,000 on this lottery ticket – certainly enough to pamper his wife with anything her heart desired on that Valentine’s Day.

But McAllister obviously felt that this was his lucky day and decided that he would purchase another lottery ticket, just for the fun of it. He went out shopping for a Valentine’s card for his wife, and bought another lottery ticket at the same time.  This time there was no denying it – Lady Luck was definitely on his side that day. McAllister found himself the winner of a staggering $250,000 !  A romantic until the very end, McAllister said: “It was because of Valentine’s Day. If it hadn’t been for my wife, I probably wouldn’t have won either time.”

So check out these odds:  McAllister  had a one in ten thousand chance of winning the first lottery, the $5,000 windfall that he had.  Then, look at the odds of winning the $250,000 prize – one in a million!  Now combine those odds and see what the chances are of winning these two lotteries in the same day!  They are truly staggering!

McAllister opted to receive his Georgia Lottery prize in one lump sum, even though it meant that Uncle Sam would get a good chunk of it for tax reasons.  However, the couple will definitely have enough money left in the bank to enjoy many more Valentines Day together!

Most Expensive Casino Chip Sold for $30,000!

Thursday, June 23rd, 2011

Who knew that a $1 casino chip could increase its value by 30,000??!  So listen to this story: A woman from the United States decided that she wanted to make a little bit of pocket money by selling some of her old trinkets on ebay.  Sandy Marbs was a retired Kwik Copy worker who was living on social benefits, and wanted to supplement her income with some of her possessions. After rummaging through her jewelry box, she came across a casino chip from Vegas’ Showboat Casino, which had lying among her bits and bobs for nearly 50 years.  She uploaded the chip’s details to ebay in the $5 – $30 section and said that she would have sold it if she was offered $10 for it.

Luckily for Marbs, there are still some honest people left in this world, and casino chip collectors, who are well known experts in the world of gambling memorabilia, contacted her to warn her not to take the first offer.  They brought with them some good news – the casino chip had a market value of $15,000!  The chip had become highly collectible, as it came from one of Vegas’s most classic spots – the Showboat Casino which had been open from 1954 to 2001.

Sandy decided to act on the advice given to her by the Casino Chip and Gaming Token Collectors Club, to take better pictures of the $1 chip and upload it to a different section of ebay.  Within hours, there was strong bidding for the little round piece, and it was eventually sold for a record price of nearly $30,000! The chip was bought by avid collector, Glenn Grush, who said that it would make a great addition to his collection.

This is the highest price paid in history for a $1 chip, although $100,000 was paid for a Sahara $100 chip. “There are certain chips that are considered classic rarities like in any hobby,” said President of the Collectors Club, Wayne Thompson. “Most of our almost 3000 members collect at a much lower price scale but derive the same enjoyment from the hobby.  We are truly fortunate to have such a diversity of members.”

Viva la Vegas! Gambling the Italian Way

Tuesday, June 21st, 2011

A recent trip to Italy reminded me just why this European country should be used as the ultimate model for successful gambling regulation and legislative reforms.  I have the impression that the Italian government has hit the nail on the head by making a clear and concise decision to move away from the traditional “let’s hammer ‘dem online gambling operators ’til they break” policy and instead has moved towards a sound, serious and respectful decision to allow online gambling freedom within a safe and secure and – yes – regulated environment.

Gambling has always been part of the Italian psyche, with the lottery being present since the middle ages.  The first recorded lottery came out of Florence in 1530, although some say that unofficial lotteries existed even before then.  The staunchly Catholic population seemed to have a love-hate relationship with gambling – on the one hand they frowned on this pastime as it went against their religious teachings, yet, on the other hand, this fun-loving, spontaneous nation loved the challenge of a gamble.  In later years, gambling pastimes were associated with the mafia, and ‘good’ Italians shied away from this form of entertainment.  It was only in the last few decades that gambling has come into its own, becoming a multi million dollar industry, creating thousands of jobs for the country’s citizens, bringing in much needed revenues for the country’s coffers and providing top notch, regulated entertainment for the people of Italy.

With the advent of online gambling, the Italian government first made this pastime illegal as it struggled to get used to the idea and understand its implications.  When the government realized that there was no stopping Italians from gambling online, it decided to make the best of the situation and issued far-reaching reforms in a very brave and mature way.  Italy’s Decree on Liberation in 2007, made online gambling legal across the entire country, and issued licenses to thousands of operators. Many foreign operators such as Ladbrokes entered the Italian market this way, although a large number of licenses were issued to local operators who offer quality gambling to Italians in their own language and currency. Italy still has a little way to go, as it still opposes access to unlicensed operators from overseas, but with its track record, the Italians may soon make changes in this area as well.

Viva la gambling!

The Growing Popularity of 3D Slot Games

Saturday, June 18th, 2011

Online gambling software companies are always on the lookout for new trends and ideas to keep their players entertained, and literally millions of dollars and man-hours are spent finding ways to keep one step ahead of the competition.  In recent times, I’ve been witness to the introduction of a fantastic new idea – that of three dimensional, or 3D, slot games.

The introduction of 3D movies probably provided the trigger to launch 3D slot games, with films such as Avatar bringing this type of visual spectacular right into the limelight.  Suddenly, traditional slots gaming wasn’t enough for slots fans, and they wanted to enjoy the last word in immersive gambling entertainment – and this opened the door to 3D slots games.

A number of top online software developers have already launched 3D slot games, with names such Rival Gaming leading the pack.  Rival’s French Cuisine, The McMurphys, Shangri Li and Dog Casher are incredible new titles available at the best online casinos out there, and provide hours of entertainment and great rewards.  My favorite has to be French Cuisine, which is based on the story line of one of my best animated movies, Ratatouille. With its incredible animations and graphics, which make you feel like you have front row seats in one of the best movies, this 3D slot game is a must-try.

Another new game to hit the markets is Microgaming‘s first and only 3D slot game, Sterling Silver 3D.  For those of you are regulars at Microgaming powered online casinos, you will recognize Sterling Silver as one of the games offered at these sites.  The software giant has upgraded Sterling Silver by giving it a 3D twist  and provides the eye-wear to allow players to enjoy the excellent action.  I tried out Sterling Silver 3D at Platinum Play online casino this weekend and found it to be as great as the promos we’ve been seeing of late.  Not only was I already familiar with the game (which always makes it more enjoyable), but it also provided me with the opportunity to win up to 15 free spins – re-triggerable of course – as well as 10 x multipliers.

Try out some of the best 3D slot games online today!

A Heartwarming Lottery Tale

Thursday, June 16th, 2011

Now and then, I like to bring you a heartwarming lottery tale that I pick up in news articles from around the world.  Sometimes they’re mega wins worth millions of dollars, and sometimes, like this one, they aren’t massive, but they certainly tickle in all the right places.

So here goes:  A man and a woman recently reconnected later in life, after not having seeing each other for years and years.  Kimberley and Larry, both from Maryland, used to know each other when their kids were very young, but then lost touch with each other.  Years later, Kimberley drove into a drive-thru to pick up a meal, and the teller serving her was Larry’s daughter.  The girl recognized Kimberley and got all excited that she was seeing a face from your childhood.  A little while later, Kimberley received a letter in the mail (yes, some people still use this form of communication!) from Larry, asking if she’d like to meet up for coffee.  After that first date, the two have been together ever since.

A great friendship soon turned into love, and the couple were married in a short but meaningful ceremony last year.  This year, they are planning to go all out with a big church wedding, and all the plans have been made. However, no money was left over for a honeymoon.  On that long-winded background, I’ll get to the lottery bit of my tale.  Larry decided to purchase five lottery tickets for his wife who had been a little ‘under the weather’.

However, the clerk accidentally ripped off six tickets and Larry saw it as a sign that he should be purchasing six instead of five.  Incredibly, the sixth ticket landed him a luxury cruise trip for him and his wife – something that they so passionately wanted in order to complete their fairy tale  wedding. The Cruise for Cash scratchoff tickets were offering these fantastic prizes to lucky winners, and nothing could have come at a better time for a better couple!

Best Bar Betting Jokes

Tuesday, June 14th, 2011

I love those jokes that start with “A guy walks into a bar and….”  They always seem to be the funniest, with the best punchlines.  Recently, while having a game of craps with my buddy at the casino, he told me two bar betting jokes that I felt I just had to share with you.

Joke no. 1:

A guy walks into a bar carrying a tortoise under his arm. The animal is bandaged from head to toe, and his shell is taped together with duct tape.  The bartender asks: “What’s wrong with your tortoise?”   ‘Nothing,” replied the owner. “In fact, this guy is so fast, I bet he could beat your dog.”  “No way!” said the bartender. “Wanna bet?” asks the customer. The bartender nods, knowing that he can spot an easy buck when he sees one.  “OK,” said the customer. ”Place your dog at one end of the bar, go to the other end of the room and call him. I bet you $500 that my tortoise will reach you before your dog does.”  The bartender and the customer shake on it and then the bartender puts his dog at one end of the bar. Just as he is about to whistle for the dog to reach him, the customer takes his tortoise and throws him against the wall, just above the man’s head.”  “See?” asked the customer. “I told you he’d reach you before the dog.  Now where’s my $500?”

Joke no. 2

A man walks into a bar and says to the bartender: “I bet you $500 that I can pee in this cup from across the room.”  The bartender looks at the man like he’s crazy and says: “Um, you got a deal.” So the man walks over to the other side of the room, pulls down his zipper and starts peeing.  Pee goes everywhere; on the bar, on customers, all over the bartender, but nothing actually lands in the cup.

The man goes back to the bartender who said to him:  ”Ha! Pay up!” So the man pays him the $500, turns around and begins to laugh . The bartender asks, “You just lost $500, why are you laughing?” The man turns around and says to the bartender, “Well you see that man over there?” The bartender says, “Yeah.” He replies, “Well, I bet him $10,000 that I could pee all over your bar and you, and that you would be happy and laugh about it!”

Gambling Gifts for Girls

Tuesday, June 14th, 2011

Does that special lady in your life love gambling as much as she loves you? Then it’s time to pamper her with one (or more!) of the many super gambling gifts available out there – and if you’re really lucky, maybe she’ll choose to share the fun with you!

  • Designer Gambling Shirts – Visit TheGamblersBoutique to check out their range of shirts that were designed with the female gambler in mind. Two of them, especially, caught my eye. The first is a 100% cotton blue jean shirt with a slot machine design, in different colors that are nicely enhanced with rhinestones for that extra bling.  I loved the 777 design at the front of the shirt.  The second one that is definitely on my wish list is a white Pima cotton shirt with a Slots of Luck applique, again in rhinestone.
  • Personalized Poker Set and Gifts - What better gift to give your lady poker player than her own, personalized poker set? Kyle Design gives you the opportunity to create your own gifts with a cool poker design on some great products, including magnets with messages, money clips, night lights and business card holders.  A really great gift from the same supplier is an artistic round black leather Texas Hold ‘em flask with a belt hook.
  • White Gold Playing Cards Charm – I found this at Gifteys online shopping site and knew that this was the perfect present for gambling ladies. The white gold and diamonds playing cards charm costs over $300 but is worth every cent. Each diamond charm includes a lobster claw that makes it easy for the wearer to attach to an existing charm bracelet or necklace.
  • Casino Gambler Watch – This casino themed watch is the ultimate gift for your favrite gambler, boasting miniature slot machines, dice, chips and more set on a cool backround of playing cards. The gift is both fun and original and comes with an easy-to-read interface and a cool green Italan leather strap. The watch is available in gold or silver and is the perfect accessory for a gal who just loves hitting the casino floor perfectly dressed for the event!

Gambling with the Law: Most Outrageous Casino Lawsuits Ever

Tuesday, June 14th, 2011

How many times have you opened a newspaper and read that this casino or another has been named in a lawsuit, usually by some disgruntled customer who lost a little too much at the blackjack tables or slot machines?  Because so much money exchanges hands at casinos, it is natural that most of these lawsuits involve the suing of one side by another.  Over the years, I’ve read of some pretty outrageous lawsuits against casinos, and here are a couple of them:

  • In 2009, a man sued two Las Vegas casinos – Caesars Palace and the Rio – for not playing their part in preventing him from losing over $127 million over a one year gambling binge. The man practically lived at the two casinos over the year and wagered a total of $825 million- equivalent to the gross domestic product of the Virgin Isles! The man used to hand out fistfuls of dollars to the dealers and throw around Tiffany gift vouchers worth hundreds to show his appreciation to casino staff.
  • In 2011, nine Atlantic City cocktail waitresses opened up a lawsuit against the casino they worked in, claiming that they were fired after new, skimpy uniforms were introduced.  The women, who are between the ages of 40 and 60, hired feminist lawyer, Gloria Allred, to represent them in their fight against discrimination. The case is still ongoing.
  • This one isn’t a lawsuit against a particular casino, but it involves gambling in general. In one of the strangest lawsuits I’ve come across, a woman from San Diego sued the chain of family-focused restaurants, Chuck E. Cheese… for promoting gambling! The woman hired a lawyer to represent her in a bid to prove that many of the activities in the games room of Chuck E. Cheese restaurants are actually disguised gambling devices, reminiscent of slot machines and roulette tables!  In her lawsuit, she stated that children shouldn’t be “exposed to casino style gambling devices at an arcade.”  It should be remembered that the top jackpot at most of these games rooms is a stuffed animal…

Choy San Poh: The Goddess of Windfall

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

I’m not the kind of person to renovate my entire home based on philosophies such as Feng Shui, however, if I can introduce a little change here, a statuette there, in the hope that my luck will prevail, I’m all for it! And so, when a friend of mine bought me a small statue of Choy San Poh, the Goddess of Windfall, she got a place of honor on my mantelpiece.  This little lady is considered particularly beneficial for speculative luck, and her smiley face and open features are meant to invite money and wealth into your home.  According to my friend, who picked her up on a trip to China recently, Choy San Poh is well loved by those who regularly take out lottery tickets, those who like visiting casinos and those who enjoy sports betting. You could say that he managed to pick out the perfect gift for me!

I was told by said friend to place Choy San Poh in the south east section of my home to ensure that her powers work to their maximum. And because she is also representative of the Matriarch in Feng Shui, she also provides extra blessings for the wife and kids of the home…

So here are a few more facts about Choy San Poh:

  • She is traditionally known as the wife of the Earth Wife God.
  • She brings quick prosperity, which is why she is a firm favorite among gamblers.
  • It is suggested to have the goddess facing the entrance of the home so that as soon as you enter your living space, you will be able to invite good wealth and fortune in.
  • You will get maximum benefit from Choy San Poh if she is paired with Tua Peh Kong.
  • This diety should not be placed in the kitchen, in toilet areas or on the floor.
  • Feng Shui does not encourage heavy gambling, but if it is done in moderation, the Goddess of Windfall, Choy San Poh, is considered the perfect gambling  figure to grace your home or business.
